Viennese Classics – The First Public Concert

As we enter the musical time tunnel, our destination is Vienna of the 18th Century. The capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the era of King Joseph II has become an important cosmopolitan center, where secular music has gradually become accessible to all social classes. In this lecture we will demonstrate the various measures the composers took in order to attract the Bourgeoisie, who were not yet accustomed to the music concerts, to attend them on a regular basis. Accordingly, we will recreate the first public concert.
