From Ethos to Pathos – Beethoven Piano Sonata op. 13 – “Pathetique”

In this lecture we will elaborate on the eminent “Sonata form”, while exploring Beethoven’s frequent alterations of it. We will also establish why this composition is often regarded, not only as Beethoven’s first ‘Romantic’ composition, but also the shift point from the Classical to the Romantic Era.
