A (Female) Note in Time – Women in Classical Music
Historically, women in music have been considered unusual and sometimes unwelcome. Many people know about Schumann and Mendelssohn - Clara and Fanny, that is. Their famous surnames make them easy to remember.

In this lecture we will demonstrate the progression of events that lead to the critical approach which related to gender rather than ability, familiarize ourselves with some of the leading women in the history of classical music, and find how George Bernard Shaw used ignorant stereotypical views of women to analyze the character and works of some of the more “feminine” of male composers.
