47 years of pilgrimage – Franz  Liszt’s “Annees de Pelerinage”

The history of music rarely provides us with compositions that have been written for almost half a century. As such, Annees de Pelerinage unfolds the diversity of Franz Liszt’s life – from a passionate womanizer to an abstinent monk, from a follower of musical traditions of the 18th century to an innovator in terms of harmony and structure, from hollow virtuosity to poetry of sounds.

In this lecture we will explore the enthralling life story of an astounding virtuoso who, more than his contemporaries, contributed to the development of the piano, presented new technical standards and elevated the status of the performer.
